LNCCI Hosts Press Conference Announcing
The Opening of Applications for the ASEAN Business Awards Lao PDR 2016

IMG_1485         On Tuesday, the 15th of March, the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry  (LNCCI) hosted a press conference announcing the launch of the ASEAN Business Awards Lao PDR 2016 (ABAL 2016), a local sub-initiative of the larger regional framework known as the ASEAN Business Investment Summit (ABIS) & ASEAN Business Awards (ABA), a series of annual events organized by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC). The year of 2016 bears witness to the Lao PDR undertaking the chairmanship of ASEAN-BAC coinciding with the country’s hosting of the 28th ASEAN Summit

    Chairman of ASEAN BAC and Vice-President of the LNCCI, Mr. Oudet Souvannavong greeted fellow distinguished LNCCI members and members of the press and proceeded to introduce the ASEAN Business Awards Lao PDR, a first-ever event for the country and will be organized on a yearly bases . Mr. Souvannavong stated that the purpose of ABAL 2016 is not only to recognize outstanding Lao enterprises but also to strengthen over-all competitiveness of the Lao PDR in the ASEAN Economic Community. Winners of ABAL 2016 will be sent to the regional ASEAN level where they will compete against some of the most reputable firms in Southeast Asia.

   The ABAL 2016 is eligible to all LNCCI members, and all enterprises both big and small are encouraged to send in their applications. The ABAL 2016 is slated to take place during the end of June this year. And the regional competition is tentatively set for September back to back to the ASEAN Business Investment Summit 2016 and the 28th ASEAN Summit 2016. KPMG has been appointed the official auditing company to ensure transparency, fairness and professionalism to the awards selection process.

Ms. Souphaphone Souannavong, lead coordinator of the ABIS and ABA 2016, explains that there are four types of classes of awards, namely:

-          Lao Priority Integration Sector Excellence Awards (1 winner for each of the eight industries)

-          SME Excellence Awards (2 winners for each of the four categories)

-          Special Awards (1 winner for each of the three categories)

-          40 Years Excellence Awards (10 winners)

As of today, applications are available for download on the website (ABIS2016.com) and the deadline for submissions is April 30th. A team of judges representing academia, the economic ministries, and the business community has been appointed to select the winners of each of the awards categories, the process of which is meticulously vetted by KPMG.

Prospective sponsors are also encouraged to contact the ABAL secretariat for sponsorship packages, which range from 1500 to 5000 USD.
